Iran, Russia Strengthen Ties in Standardization and Metrology

The heads of Iran's and Russia's national standard bodies have committed to deepening strategic cooperation across key areas, including standardization, metrology, conformity assessment, and the development of technical regulations.
The high-level meeting took place at the headquarters of the Iran National Standards Organization (INSO) in Karaj, featuring INSO President, Dr. Farzaneh Ansari and Mr. Anton Shalaev, Head of the Russian Federal Agency on Technical Regulation and Metrology (GOST R).
Discussions focused on activating joint technical working groups and enhancing collaboration in metrology, with an emphasis on proficiency comparisons in areas like mass, temperature, and pressure. Dr. Ansari highlighted Iran's interest in leveraging Russia's experience in transitioning from mandatory standards to technical regulations and proposed exchanging lists of national standards to facilitate harmonization and boost trade.
Anton Shalaev affirmed Russia's readiness to share its national standards and to develop a new cooperation roadmap for the coming years.
The meeting concluded with a tangible outcome, as deputies from both organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a joint training program for standards experts from both nations.
